This lie can hurt you more than most (with video)

faith fear lies Apr 30, 2018

Have you ever been lied to?

Had your confidence stolen unexpectedly?

Felt like the rug was pulled out from under your feet?

There are few emotions as powerful as that of being lied to.

Today, I want to share with you one of the biggest lies that threatens to destroy all that is good in your life.

Not only is this lie damaging in your financial life, but it seeks to destroy all that God is doing in every other area as well.

That lie (or maybe we should say "liar"), is FEAR.

FEAR IS A LIAR

In my experience as a former financial advisor, fear was at the forefront of much of what I dealt with.

  • "What if the markets crash?"
  • "What if Social Security runs out?"
  • "What if health care costs eat away at my pension?"
  • "What if.... (fill in your own fear here)????"

We (financial advisors) would always talk about the importance of combating the two most heinous emotional destroyers of wealth management - Fear and Greed.

It still holds true today.

But for Christians, fear has the ability to destroy much more than your 401k.  It has the power to destroy everything that God is doing and wants to do in your life.

Why is this such a big deal?

Think about this powerful and inspiring verse that so many of us are familiar with from Jeremiah 29:11:

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

While that verse is powerful and true, I want to ask you something that maybe you haven't thought about as it pertains to this verse and others like it.

Who else knows the plans that God has for you?

A: God's enemy - satan.

While we should not spend our time focusing on the devil and his work, it's important to understand what we're up against and know his tactics.

By definition, satan means, "one who plots against, an adversary, one who opposes or obstructs."

Think about that!  Isn't that the most telling definition you've ever heard?!

Behind every fear you face is the one who seeks to oppose, obstruct, and is plotting against every good thing that God has planned for you.

Plans to prosper you.

Plans to use you.

Plans to help you have more Impact.

Plans to give you more Options for His Kingdom and the causes that He wants you to fund and support.

Plans to give you rest and Margin and peace.

Do you see, now, why fear can hurt you more than almost anything else?

It comes from the one who fears what he already knows about God's plans for him:  he will soon be destroyed and his time is limited.

Fear is a liar and is the father of lies.

"...He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies." - John 8:44

In our Christian Financial Community, we talk a lot about this issue because when it comes to our faith and financial lives, we must know what we are up against and know what can derail God's plans for our lives.

So this begs the question:

Do you want to live out the best life that God has planned for you?

Then you must be vigilant, aware of, and on guard against the lies that seek to destroy you.

Recognize them for what they are.  Find the truth.  Never forget:

Fear is a liar.
